about this project

The project involved the refurbishment of sash windows in the historic Grade 2 listed property, The Old Rectory Cadorna. The property's historical significance demanded meticulous attention to detail to preserve its original heritage.

LOCATION & CONTEXT

The Old Rectory Cadorna, nestled in the picturesque area of Anglesey, exudes timeless charm and historical significance. Surrounded by the captivating presence of Beaumaris Castle and the iconic South Stack Lighthouse, this location offers a unique glimpse into the region's rich heritage, making it an ideal setting for the preservation and refurbishment of the sash windows with the classic Georgian Bar style.

BRIEF & CHALLENGES

The owner of The Old Rectory Cadorna had a clear vision to maintain the authenticity of the building while addressing the deteriorating sash windows. To comply with the Grade 2 listed status, the refurbishment required a Georgian Bar style. This added an extra level of complexity due to the intricate nature of the design and the extra work involved in crafting multiple small panes of glass separated by wooden bars.

sOLUTION PROVIDED

To meet the unique requirements of the project, our team at Heritage Joinery devised a solution that combined traditional craftsmanship with modern efficiency. The project was divided into phases to ensure minimal disruption to the property.

Thorough Assessment:

Our experts conducted a thorough assessment of the existing sash windows, considering their historical significance and current condition. This assessment served as the foundation for our restoration approach.

Collaborative Planning:

We collaborated closely with the property owner, fulfilling their desire to retain the building's original charm. Close communication and understanding the owner's vision were vital to successful outcomes.

Preservation & Restoration:

For this delicate restoration, we carefully dismantled the sash windows and transported them to our Heritage Joinery workshop. Here, we meticulously preserved any salvageable original elements and restored them to their former glory.

Custom Georgian Bar Style:

Crafting the Georgian Bar style demanded the highest level of craftsmanship. Our skilled artisans expertly created intricate wooden bars and small panes of glass to replicate the authentic Georgian design.

Efficient Installation:

To minimise on-site disruption, we completed as much preparatory work as possible in our workshop. Upon returning to The Old Rectory Cadorna, we installed the newly refurbished sash windows over a well-managed 3-day period.

Quality Assurance:

Our commitment to excellence extended to quality assurance, ensuring each window met the highest standards before completion.
