about this project

This project required our team to replace the existing shop front and door of the Knutsford Wedding Gallery, situated on a bustling main street in the town centre. The primary objective was to upgrade the façade while maintaining the historical integrity of the listed building. Time was also a factor, both due to the closing of the shop, and the obstruction to foot and road traffic immediately outside the building.

LOCATION & CONTEXT

Knutsford, a picturesque town in Cheshire, boasts a rich history and architectural significance. The Knutsford Wedding Gallery, housed within a listed building, required special attention to preserve its heritage value while implementing modern improvements.

BRIEF & CHALLENGES

Our team faced several challenges with this project, primarily due to the need for a fast turnaround. The shop required only a two and a half day closure during the renovation, necessitating swift and efficient execution. Additionally, being located on a prominent main street, the team had to coordinate closely with the local council to obtain a permit for work on the front facade.

Given the listed building status, the renovation process required careful consideration of building consent regulations. This meant that detailed drawings had to be submitted and approved before any work could commence.

sOLUTION PROVIDED

We embarked on a comprehensive solution to meet the project's requirements. First, we engaged in the process of obtaining building consent by preparing and submitting meticulous drawings, ensuring compliance with preservation guidelines.

The team opted for a swift 2.5-day turnaround, dedicating four skilled workers to the project on the initial days and adding an additional worker on day three to meet the tight deadline. The method of dry glazing was employed, allowing for a quick and efficient installation without compromising quality.

Preservation of the building's historic character was central to the approach, and the team meticulously removed the original frames while taking utmost care not to damage any historical elements.

CONCLUSION

Through careful planning, skilful execution, and adherence to preservation regulations, our team successfully revitalised the shop front of the Knutsford Wedding Gallery. The harmonious blend of modern improvements with historical significance has not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the listed building but also upheld its unique heritage for generations to come.

The Knutsford Wedding Gallery can now welcome visitors with a renewed facade, showcasing its commitment to preserving the past while embracing the future.
